I thought I understood it
That I could grasp it
But I didn’t
Not really
I knew the smudgeness of it
The pink-slippered-all-containered-semi-precious eagerness of it
I didn’t realize it would sometimes be more than whole
The wholeness was a rather luxurious idea
Because its the halves that halve you in half
Didn’t know
Don’t know about the in between bits
The gory bits of you
And gory bits of me

I never understood nor appreciated Summer’s character until I did. She’s complex. Although Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) seems perfect, he’s not perfect for her. When I first saw the movie I could not comprehend the idea of a love story being about unrequited love. And how could someone not love Tom? He’s essentially perfect: beautiful, funny, smart, kind, caring, beautiful. But that’s the very message of the story; one cannot help with whom he or she falls in love with. You can’t force love, nor can you forever deny it. The heart wants what the heart wants. It’s not you, it’s me. Honestly (via hadiakhatijah) |
